About Jealous Monk
During the 6th century, Benedictine monasteries began appearing in Europe. St. Benedict ordered a life that was self-sustained, and that the monasteries would provide food and drink for passing visitors and pilgrims. Since water was not sanitary, the monks brewed. They took the process seriously, with study, patience and dedication to the practice.
In addition to sharing their brew with visitors and pilgrims, and selling commercially ... they also used it as a way to pay taxes or to pay for labor or other services and supplies.
While becoming 'craftsmen' at brewing, the monks drank a lot of their beer! Some records show daily rations of up to 4 liters of beer per day! Beer provided nutrition and fortification.
Today, establishments like The Jealous Monk, get to share the benefit of the monk's hard work! Our comfortable bar, restaurant & outdoor beer garden offer a gathering place for beer lovers, families, folks visiting the Mystic area, and our locals! Combining the best elements of the European beer halls, with American sports bars, and social clubs ... Jealous Monk will soon become your favorite watering hole! Our extensive draft beer selections' current list of taps and available keg content appear, live, in real time, on our large TV monitors! Over 100 bottled beers - from around the world - are available, as well as specialty cocktails and non-alcholic beverages, too! Home made sausages, Belgian frites, and plenty of classic pub fare (done ala Monk!) round out the menu.
So ... gather your friends, family, and/or co workers ... and enjoy one of the newest pubs in Mystic! And -- while you are there -- join the Monk Club, an exclusive membership opportunity, for specials, new brews, a cool tee-shirt, and your very own Monk mug!
